Permias took a role in enhancing the impact of Brazos Valley Worldfest. We took the part in promoting diversity and global citizenship and help create a more internationalized atmosphere at Texas A&M University and the cities of Bryan/College Station through ambassadorship, leadership and service.

Brazos Valley Worldfest Ambassadors help promote the festival and associated programs at Texas A&M University and in the local community. They do so by holding information booths at various university and community events, by speaking at organizational meetings and by volunteering for festival related programs like Culture in Classroom. They serve as the voice for the festival and help educate the community about the learning opportunities the festival has to offer. They help promote diversity on campus and in the community and global citizenship while creating a more internationalized atmosphere.

Things that we introduced through this festival:

Gamelan (/ˈɡæməlæn/) is the traditional ensemble music of Java and Bali in Indonesia, made up predominantly of percussive instruments. The most common instruments used are metallophones played by mallets and a set of hand-played drums called kendhang which register the beat. Other instruments include xylophones, bamboo flutes, a bowed instrument called a rebab, and even vocalists called sindhen.

.Although the popularity of gamelan has declined since the introduction of pop music, gamelan is still commonly played on formal occasions and in many traditional Indonesian ceremonies. For most Indonesians, gamelan is an integral part of Indonesian culture.

The Angklung is a musical instrument from Indonesia that’s made of 2 or more bamboo tubes attached to a bamboo frame. Each tube is tuned to a specific octave. The instrument is held with one hand at the top of the frame, while the other hand near the bottom shakes it to make the sound. Three or more performers create an angklung ensemble. Each person plays a different note to make a song.

Rangku Alu is a traditional game that are played to celebrate the harvest seasons that always falls in the month of June and July. It was originally from East Nusa Tenggara, the southernmost province of Indonesia. It is located in the eastern part of the Lesser Sunda Islands and includes West Timor.

And of course we can't forget about our lovely country Indonesia. Here, a Permias member is providing some information about the Indonesia islands. We made our very own map with batik fabric and attached some highlight descriptions about the most famous objects in each island.

Indomie Mi Goreng is an instant noodles product line made under the Indomie brand by the Indofood company, the world's largest instant noodle manufacturer, located in Indonesia. Mi Goreng is Indonesian for "fried noodle". Indomie Mi Goreng is simply abbreviated as Indomie goreng by most Indonesians. Indomie Goreng is a type of instant noodle served without soup and is stirred well with soysauce, oil, and seasoning. This instant noodle derived its inspiration from traditional Indonesian dish called mi goreng, a variant of fried noodle common in Indonesia. Many street vendors sell it and traditional mi goreng is considered as common food by the people. This product has gained a cult following in Indonesia and in various other countries, such as Nigeria and Australia.

Bakwan is an Indonesian fried meal consisting of corn and batter. Bakwan usually refers to a fritter snack, commonly sold by gorengan (Indonesian fritter) traveling street vendors. There are many types of Bakwan, such as Bakwan Jagung(corn fritters) - like the picture on the left and Bakwan sayur(vegetable fritters.) In West Java bakwan is known as 'bala-bala'.

And of course our famous signature SATAY!

Satay, or sate in Indonesian spelling, is a dish of seasoned, skewered and grilled meat, served with a sauce. It is a dish of Southeast Asia, particularly Indonesia. It is the most famous culinary food not only in Indonesia but also in the United States.
